The Leningrad Chess Men series comprises sets of quality large pieces available in ebonised boxwood, acacia and anjan. To create the look of these black pieces, a set in natural boxwood go through a treatment called ebonisation. It’s a long and painstaking procedure but the results are really worth the wait to create the appearance of ebony, without its price tag. The process also protects the wood further.

The Leningrad Series Chessmen have become one of the best sellers on the Regency Chess website because of the weight and quality of finish. In fact, customers regularly comment on the solid feel in the hand.
Being taller pieces allows the Leningrad carving to be slightly more ornate, especially on the knights. With their height and stature, all the pieces are regal and elegant in their appearance. We have chosen a nineteen inch veneer chess board with fine quality inlays to accommodate the Leningrad Ebonised Chess Men. This is a classic design that is available in most chess outlets, however our version has been crafted in Europe to a very high standard and represents superb value for money for such a good quality wooden chess board. The Regency Chess Company is proud to be selling the very best version of this classic design.
Typically this board was being made in Eastern Europe or China with many sellers selling versions of varying quality. We have created our own version that’s been manufactured by the Spanish chess board maker Rechapados Ferrer. So we are confident that our version is more precise, cleaner and made using better materials than all the others on the market. To protect your table tops, green felt feet have been added to the base. As it is clear of any notation, this particular board results in a clean contemporary look. It is a heavy board with a solid feel, and very well finished making it perfect to complement to these pieces. Clean and simplistic, you will have seen this design for years in famous tournaments, often with very famous players or celebrities sat either side of it. The reason this board has been used so much is that it is so versatile, complementing so many different styles of pieces. It works well with brown wooden chessmen but looks equally at home with ebony or ebonised ones.

The chess board in this set has been expertly crafted by Rechapados Ferrer in Spain using precision laser cutting techniques and stunning wooden veneers combined with expert lacquering and finishing. The underside of the board is finished in a satin veneer that is a different colour from the playing surface of the board. The veneers used for the underside may vary in colour from batch to batch.
