This chess set is of supreme quality and is a great departure from the usual Staunton chess set options. The chessmen are very faithful reproductions of the original Isle of Lewis artefacts. These superb British made chess pieces are brought to you by the National Museums of Scotland. They have been created from precise laser scanning of the originals. The Lewis chess pieces have become legendary and remain one of the most famous and original designs of chess piece.

The large chess board, made in Spain, is almost 24 inches (60 cm) in width. These chessmen require a large square size to accommodate their bases. The beautiful deep blacks of the anegre wood and the high gloss lacquer reflect the chessmen beautifully, making them seem almost weightless. The chess board in this set has been expertly crafted by Rechapados Ferrer in Spain using precision laser cutting techniques and stunning wooden veneers combined with expert lacquering and finishing. The underside of the board is finished in a satin veneer that is a different colour from the playing surface of the board. The veneers used for the underside may vary in colour from batch to batch.
