These Canterbury Knight Series chessmen represent a rather unique take on the classic Staunton design with a few notable features setting them apart from all of our other luxury chess sets. Their unsurpassed quality and elegant design have earned them a right to be placed in our prestigious Regency Chess Collection.

The knight, with his pronounced quiff, is toned and muscular with supremely realistic carvings. His facial features are fierce and all four of the knights in each set are uniform, having been crafted to an extremely high standard by master carvers.

The queen has an accentuated fanned crown, giving her a unique and special appearance and you will find four queens in this luxury set allowing you to promote your pawn when he reaches the opponents side safely. The most notable thing about the whole set however is the finial of the king, which is elongated and features a decorative hole in the centre. The set has been expertly crafted from fine quality black ebony and clean-grained boxwood, triple weighted for perfect balance and has billiard cloth on their bases to protect your board.

Because it boasts large squares for its overall size, we have matched these chessmen with a high-grade walnut and maple veneered chess board. Its construction, using modern fabrication techniques, has produced a board with simple lines and very exacting detail. This is a high-quality large chess board produced by prestigious chess board maker Rechapados Ferrer S.A. S.A. of Spain. The walnut grain of the playing squares is superb and the board base is equally well finished using high-grade veneer. Perfect for accompanying these majestic chess men to create a stunning chess set combination to grace any home.

The chess board in this set has been expertly crafted by Rechapados Ferrer in Spain using precision laser cutting techniques and stunning wooden veneers combined with expert lacquering and finishing. The underside of the board is finished in a satin veneer that is a different colour from the playing surface of the board. The veneers used for the underside may vary in colour from batch to batch.
