These British Ebonised chess men are expertly carved in the easily recognisable Staunton design and yet still offer superb quality and value for money. From the tip of the King’s finial through to the mitre of the bishop down to the crenellations of the rook, this quality of finish and attention to detail is far beyond what you would expect from such a modestly priced set.
Each ornament starts life as a solid piece of boxwood, which is then expertly turned, carved and finished. One half of the pieces undergo ’ebonisation’ – a very convincing process that gives them the look of real ebony, without the price tag, and all pieces undergo weighting and felting on their bases.

Despite its entry level status, this set includes 4 queens.

With a king height of 3.5 inches, it makes them ideal for this nineteen inch veneer chess board. With fine quality inlays, this is a classic design available from most chess outlets. Our version however has been crafted in Europe to an exceptional standard and to represent superb value for money. This particular board is clear of any notation which results in a clean contemporary look and green felt feet on the base protect your table tops.

We created our own version that’s been manufactured by the Spanish chess board maker Rechapados Ferrer, so we are confident that our version is more precise, cleaner and made using better materials than all the others on the market. Made from a rich burgundy colour, the top of the bag has metal eyelets and a cord to seal the chess pieces safe and sound inside.

The chess board in this set has been expertly crafted by Rechapados Ferrer in Spain using precision laser cutting techniques and stunning wooden veneers combined with expert lacquering and finishing. The underside of the board is finished in a satin veneer that is a different colour from the playing surface of the board. The veneers used for the underside may vary in colour from batch to batch.
