This beautiful chess set features pieces inspired by the timeless designs from Victorian playing cards, and comes complete with a deluxe Spanish-made Walnut and Maple board.

Queen Victoria – Britain’s longest-ruling sovereign, headed Britain and its empire from 1837 until her death in January 1901. During the 19th century the small agricultural island nation exploded into a massive industrial powerhouse and her naval empire expanded its borders all over the world. From the introduction of railway and waterway networks to the huge advances in science and medicine, the Victorian era represented a great renaissance that catapulted Britain into the 20th century.

These exquisite designs perfectly capture the splendour and atmosphere of this iconic time, and come set on a luxurious board produced by legendary chess maker Rechapados Ferrer S.A. of Spain.

The chess board in this set has been expertly crafted by Rechapados Ferrer in Spain using precision laser cutting techniques and stunning wooden veneers combined with expert lacquering and finishing. The underside of the board is finished in a satin veneer that is a different colour from the playing surface of the board. The veneers used for the underside may vary in colour from batch to batch.
