The glory of Elizabethan England is commemorated perfectly in this stunning UK-made chess set. The set comes paired with a deluxe Palisander and Maple Deluxe Chess Board.
The reign of Queen Elizabeth The First was a time of profound economic growth and empirical expansion for England. ‘The Virgin Queen’ as Elizabeth was known (for refusing to dilute her authority through marriage), brought England forward into a new era now associated with icons such as William Shakespeare, Sir Walter Raleigh and Sir Francis Drake.
This intricately crafted set of pieces has been cast from heavy crushed stone resin and finished with a deep, rich Russet Brown and Palisander Cream colouring.
The King: Lord Burghley – Sir William Cecil, The Queen’s Chief Advisor
The Queen: Elizabeth I
The Bishop: Matthew Parker – Archbishop of Canterbury
The Knight: Sir Walter Raleigh
The Rook: White Tower of The Tower of London
The Pawn: Ships of the English Fleet
The chess board in this set has been expertly crafted by Rechapados Ferrer in Spain using precision laser cutting techniques and stunning wooden veneers combined with expert lacquering and finishing. The underside of the board is finished in a satin veneer that is a different colour from the playing surface of the board. The veneers used for the underside may vary in colour from batch to batch.
