All of the pieces in this Atlantic set are turned from high-quality grade boxwood, with the black pieces being finished in a black lacquer that has been polished to a deep shine. With this black and natural lacquered edition, the Atlantic Series Staunton chess pieces take on a contemporary modern feel.


In order to preserve the wood and continuity within the set, the light pieces are also gloss lacquered with a polished clear coat. The gloss lacquering takes nothing away from any of the fine detailing of the chessmen and the extremes in tone provide excellent contrast on the chess board. These fine chess pieces are also double weighted with generous felting to their bases to protect your board.

Like his comrades, the knight is robust enough to endure many years on the battlefield while preserving some of his smiling character and presence. The sleek ’tucked in’ ears allow for plenty of chess playing without fear of damaging the ornamental appeal of this lovely chess piece.

These chessmen will sit perfectly on a board with a square size of two inches (51 mm) or greater so we have matched them with a beautifully finished, high gloss lacquered large chess board produced by the renowned Spanish chess board maker Rechapados Ferrer. Grey ash burl and maple veneered construction is used throughout. The board’s base is also finished from quality wooden veneer. Modern fabrication techniques are used to ensure your chess board has clean lines and meticulous attention to detail. The ash has a beautiful marbled burl grain that appears to move in changing lights. This combination of board and pieces is a perfect addition to your lounge, study or office.

The chess board in this set has been expertly crafted by Rechapados Ferrer in Spain using precision laser cutting techniques and stunning wooden veneers combined with expert lacquering and finishing. The underside of the board is finished in a satin veneer that is a different colour from the playing surface of the board. The veneers used for the underside may vary in colour from batch to batch.
