Boasting an imperious King of 3.5 inch along with beautifully carved knights and bishops, the Reproduction Staunton Ebony Chessmen 1890 Model are supplied by the same chess workshop that produces some of the world’s finest chessmen.
Turned from solid wood then painstakingly carved with exquisite detailing, not only are these reproduction pieces the classic Staunton design, but they also bear the original markings of the kings crown on 1 black knight, 1 black rook, 1 white knight and 1 white rook. This was a practical innovation to identify their position on the King’s side of the board. This is because, in descriptive chess notation, the rooks and knights were often referred to as being the ‘queens knight, or the ‘king’s rook’.

The stunning 21.7 inch Walnut and Maple board, with its 2.17 inch squares makes it the perfect fit for these lovely pieces and the quality veneers create a classically traditional chess set to grace any home.

Please note that when the chessmen are placed in the box it is normal and intentional for them to lay down on top of each other. They are NOT intended to stand up inside the box.

The chess board in this set has been expertly crafted by Rechapados Ferrer in Spain using precision laser cutting techniques and stunning wooden veneers combined with expert lacquering and finishing. The underside of the board is finished in a satin veneer that is a different colour from the playing surface of the board. The veneers used for the underside may vary in colour from batch to batch.
