Parthenon Grand Ebony And Walnut Chess Set

The Parthenon chessmen are deluxe quality, large elegant and exquisitely finished in ebony and graded boxwood. The design is based on the familiar Staunton lines but have a more classical, columnar look. This is most noticeable in the shape of the long shanks and the angular lines of the bishop’s mitre. Each chess piece is well balanced and weighted and polished to a very high sheen without the use of artificial or synthetic waxes or lacquers.

The large deluxe walnut and maple chess board is made just outside of Barcelona in Spain. The attention to detail is sublime – sub millimetre sharp lines and inlays are supported by grain matched playing squares and a robust matt finish lacquered surface. The rich browns, reds and yellows of the walnut really complement the black ebony and yellow boxwood chessmen creating a very traditional looking chess set with some subtle hints from classical architecture.

This luxury set includes 4 queens and a Rootwood Chesspiece Case with hinged lid and quadrant hinges.

Please note that when the chessmen are placed in the box it is normal and intentional for them to lay down on top of each other. They are NOT intended to stand up inside the box.

The chess board in this set has been expertly crafted by Rechapados Ferrer in Spain using precision laser cutting techniques and stunning wooden veneers combined with expert lacquering and finishing. The underside of the board is finished in a satin veneer that is a different colour from the playing surface of the board. The veneers used for the underside may vary in colour from batch to batch.
